the platform

Finally finally. After too many requests, I gave up my resistance and decided to join two more "connection platforms" - Facebook and StudiVZ. It's amazing how many invitations one can get to different platforms, connection books, whatever... studivz, hi 5, linkedin, xing, etc..

the problem is that friends seem to have a diverse taste when it comes to choosing platforms. There is no single platform that includes all friends.

What we would need is "the platform". This whole platform market needs consolidation. I am asking for mergers or even better hostile takeovers as it seems that the market is not able to regulate itself. I don't see any other areas where I would ask for dictatorship and monopoly, but this is definitely one of them.

Haha!

I also have a lot of requests for Facebook but I have not given in yet. I just did not like the idea of spying too much on too many people. :)

I guess I will be left in the dust when I am 50 and have no contacts with anyone. A risk I am willing to take (for now).

It's a popularity contest between different models. Remember the QWERTY keyboard? MSN vs Yahoo messenger, Gmail vs Hotmail - the greatest gatherers of people will prevail!

I'm for compatibility between social networking sites but at the moment Facebook has massive interactivity features plus compatibility with Flickr and Blogspot :) don't think they'll get taken over

Well... I just registered at all of them and focus my efforts on those which are used most by the people I want to stay connected with.
But whewey - I was invited to this top-notch elite-community with only 10.000 invited members. It's as boring as the others, just looks better.

Dude, you have not blogged for 3 months. What happened?

I am joining BAIN & Company here in Shanghai. How are you doing?

Hi Peter, hello guys :)
This topic is quiteinteresting, maybe even more now that Facebook is selling its data to advertisers.
who still wants to join?

I also wanted to point out the question of Digital Identity Management, which will soon become an issue for all of us as more and more "personal" information goes online, under different profiles/nicknames/applications. How do we keep track of all that and make sense of our digital identity?

cheers to all.

jingwei, we don't know each other I think, but if you happen to read this, how may I contact you? I am applying for Bain & Company in Paris, the company looks really excellent, involved, supporting; I'd like to talk about it with you :)
