last king of scotland
Lately I'm not reading that much. It makes me a bit worried since I normally like reading, however, I do not want to force myself to do something that is meant to be enjoyable. My current book is "The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, but I just started.
On the other side, movies are something I enjoy a lot for the moment. Yesterday we watched "The last king of scotland", a movie about Idi Amin and Ugandas story. Well, mainly it's a story not about Idi Amin, but about a young doctor from scotland, who wants to combine fun with saving the world and goes to Uganda after graduating.
I really liked the movie, I think it is absolutely worth seeing. Despite all the tragic behind the story the main thing for me was the closed eyes this young doctor has. He cannot or he doesn't want to see what is going on around him. The mindlessness he shows in everything he does, the "taking it easy" attitude can be found in a lot of us as well. Until he realizes that what he is doing is not good. But even in this moment of clarity the only thing he does is, taking it even "more easy" and going to bed with (one of) Idi Amin(s) wife(s).
A quite unexpected reaction. It's like, well I am anyway fucked and I cannot get out of here, so let's live for the moment.
