bukarest

last weekend I had the pleasure to visit Artur in Bukarest together with Ernesto. Hm, not really. Due to some - let's call them "issues" - we weren't able to visit Artur. While me and Ernst travelled to Bukarest, Artur travelled to Vienna. So most probably somebody with really good eyes would have been able to see Artur or Ernst and me while travelling the same route in the other way on the plane.

Anyway - since AIESEC is big there are other friends to visit and so we visited Stefan Wolf, an IBK AIESECer, who is doing an internship in Bukarest.

Bukarest was the opposite from what I expected. I thought it is: 100% party and a not so beautiful city. I discovered it is vice versa. We couldn't find a good party - not any night. Although the last club we were - Embryo - really fulfilled what it promised: a fancy location, something that is completely extraordinary designwise, but the style of music is only good for some hours. The other day we went to "Bamboo" which seems to be the club for the nouveau riche of Bukarest. It's this kind of club where you wouldn't order a beer (we did) and where girls start dancing only when they notice that you are looking at them (and especially if the think you are rich). The decadence and the way these people needed to show their (non existing) greatness was quite sad and I think they are really poor.

but to make a point: Bukarest as a city is really beautiful. I love cities not because of their nice look but because the city as a whole "makes sense". Bukarest for me, with all it's damaged roads, with all the nice buildings next to completely ugly ones, with random cab drivers, with an amazing dynamism and complete silence at the same time - makes sense. Everything fits, it's authentic, natural - and that is completely sexy and beautiful.

I felt so home that I even fell asleep on a park bench (the last time this happened in a city was in Agra during a Riksha ride).
